The main issue I find is, yes a lot of people use this style, but not correctly. I used to be a big concept writer, and I had the same issue. The issue is, cats are coming up with a concept and stretching it way longer than needed. There's a delusion around here that the more relevancy you can cram into one single punch, the better. Which is false. Yes, I do like concepts when they get pulled off nice, but a lot of people are just making them long winded with no jab building up to it or nothing.
The way I see it, a concepts shouldn't stretch more than 4 lines.
Line 1: Opener/Set up
Line 2: First Punch that acts as a set up simultaneously.
Line 3: Another set up that carries relevancy
Line 4: The final haymaker.
But even then, I feel like 4 lines should be the MAX for a single concept.
Within the 4 lines you can fit 2 punches easily, that all lead up to the haymaker. I've seen concepts get stretched 6 or 7 lines lol. Cut the filler. Complex doesn't necessarily mean good.

That was actually very nicely put @ Dono but my thing is that most of these dudes trying to do that end up stretching w/ filler. Not everyone has the multis that stay relevant and yet people still give praise to them. Also no but any coach would rather see a player make perfect back to back free throws over missed 3 pointers w/ a dude in your face. I actually do like the style of set ups that all relate but my point is like 80% of these dudes are not doing that properly. Instead of swishs they're trying to bank the threes and end up hitting the backboard for a brick.

For me, I don't like "mini punches" anymore. I don't like having a line before your punchline, which doesn't relate to the punchline (unless of course you're planning on scheming for a while or something).
I prefer the back to back bars style. One thing though I feel that can go wrong, which Bleu helped me a lot with since our styles were fairly similar in that regard, is that you need to establish your scheme a little bit. If you check my verses against Tana, Rain or IV, I was using just two multis per line. While that was giving me loads of room for more punches, and allowed for that "barrage" effect, I felt like it wasn't giving the scheme enough time, which was taking away from my delivery. Now, I try and add in a few more multis, but I want it to completely be on topic. ILLoKWENT said, in regards to my verse against Bleu, that it "flowed off like a conversation". That's exactly what I'm going for.
I still HATE the reference style. That...
Blah blah blah (french town wordplay) blah blah MULTI, blah blah (french town wordplay) blah blah MULTI, blah blah (french town wordplay) blah blah and I'm not TALKING BOUT FRENCH TOWNS
You add in so much extra stuff A) Doesn't have working wordplay and B) Doesn't even add to the punch.

This right here^ I'm not trying to come at the people who be doing this shit flawlessly...Go ahead and keep on doing you. It's the people who think they're doing it and just stretch to the point where it becomes boring or we have to re read the whole bar 5 times just to put all the set ups together.

i feel what Manhattan is sayin 100
Dono makes a great point for the few dudes who can actually execute the style.
But id rather see some a barrage of punches (some haymakers, some jabs) then long stretched out, awkward flowing multis but relevant concepts with a jab at the end..More punches the better. Unless the person can flawlessly execute the style Dono is referring too.
IMO

Haha that's a good point. You actually use the style very well if I might add. That one bar vs grizz was one of the best executed bars in terms of relevance in multis and set ups.
