Dono's Odyssey
Something I've been working on for a long time, this is the first draft. Lemme know if y'all catch anything that's off or odd. Obviously hardly anyone is going to read this. I get that. No worries, I wrote it for me. Cheers.
Plight Of Man (The Journey Begins)
I muse in sad fantasy, on the back balcony
With thoughts less comprehensible than bad alchemy
I stare out at the horizon, exhale cold night air
Feeling quite scared, I know nothing, so why care?
Mind whispers grow to hold their own personalities
Locked in opportunities any person's bound to seize
Never been the type to think, till someone spiked my drink
Sliced the synch with reality, on the frightful brink
Between my mind scape and everything I find great
Now not knowing life's purpose makes me irate
(When Up was Down)
Colors blended into tasted sounds and I felt taste melt fate
Which smelt great, enticed by hell's gate I was dealt bait
Which led me to leap through black holes with a gazelle's gait
Truly though, these tirading thoughts made Orion's belt break
With nothing to restrain it, Gravity let loose, bled truth
Red juice finally left the carpet, drawing a dead goose
Knocked it's head loose, logic lost lucid longevity
But released it's strong energy at the wrong enemy
The multi-verse theory knocked back and forth to play strings
Convention broken, dimensions opened saying the same things
Flashback to ash black hash tags, gashed flags, and smashed bags
Luggage split from the cargo and torn into slashed rags
Six riders slid from horses due to slick tires
While sick fighters called for help burning in thick fires
Bic lighters and the heat of the moment used to lick liars
Father Time put two hours in a second to trick friars
Mother nature evolved into another stature
Darwin disagreed, destiny designed her brother's maker
Love your neighbor or be forced into rougher labor
We'll suffer later, focus on catching summer's vapor
I present a riddle, class chronicle, stupor is palpable
The present is fickle, past comical, future intangible
I consent a little, pass possible, tutor an animal
I resent the middle, glass monocle, shooters are radical
The descent of spittle, grass obstacle, troopers or nationals
The dissent acquittal, mass particles, neutering cannibals
Depended, what? Please re-send it, too late message rescinded
Sobriety back, wild ride ended, coherency re-imprinted
(Shaken, Not Stirred - Ideology)
Understand any of that?.....then you get the universe
But I'm totally lost; ignorant, unruly curse!
Let's be honest, it was a little more strange than serious
But the experiences left me deranged and curious
Lately I'm stumbling, all I've known is crumbling
Bumbling and mumbling, I guess it should be humbling
I feel a mixed sense of confusion and heart break
The world I admired has become such a dark place
It seems life has led me to the end of my chain
I contemplate ending it all to tend to the pain
But no, that's merely the indolent path to purpose
Barely scratch the surface, I'd rather ask the sermons
Whether past or the present, my task was reverent
Desired to know if the human caste was heaven sent
Or an abomination of adulteration
Or founded on some other unknowable operation
Is there a higher power or do I control my fate?
Swiftly started searching for answers because, well, why wait?
Escape Through Myth (A Rome through Greece)
In Homer's roots I had every book delivered
Titans clashed in violent wrath, the earth shook and quivered
Thumbed through innumerable volumes of Zeus' exploits
God's blood better for physique than the use of steroids
For proof, ask the heroes Hercules or Perseus
Luck was courteous, to most things they were impervious
Achilles drew the short stick, his heel unprotected
Paris' bow brought the arrow with skill as expected
Downfall in the Trojan war with armies hopin for
The rescue of some type of golden whore of olden lore
I loved Aphrodite, thought of Hades half as highly
Ares raged, spear and shield, all knew his wrath was mighty
Athena's battle attire resembled a Spartan Miss
Sun and moon, for the twins Apollo and Artemis
Dionysus partied hard over the cripple Hephaestus (hi-fes-tus)
Hermes delivered each message, winged sandals fly restless
Demeter and Hestia watched over crops and cooking
With Hera, the worried mother and wife, often looking
Fire was brought to man in the hands of Prometheus
But he would have brought truth if his plan was ingenious
After reading the chronicles of Olympus
They struck me as paradoxical and fictitious
Deities inflicted with the soul of humanity
Our grand creations reflect self, such is our vanity
(Norse Code in Papyrus)
As I dove into other fables and fine classics
Ra passed overhead in formulaic time lapses
Apollo would be jealous knowing the sun is shared
An endless wealth of tales, I came unprepared
To peer-amid their glory and comprehend the bulk
For any other end I'd have been content to sulk
But as it was I pushed, papers covered me like mummies
Studies from original texts to 'myths for dummies'
For wisdom, I sacrificed both my eyes to Odin
Twice his offer in the spring, yet no surprise awoken
Valhalla raged inside my head, wild crashing fighting
Until Thor came and settled things with flashing lightning
As I read of Baldur, something struck me as absurd
Deja vu reigned, entertained by duplicates I heard
Though different, Ra was Apollo and Thor was Zeus
In essence; lack of copy write laws are a poor excuse
Thousands of holy accounts spun from the main threads
Fabric differed in color but led to the same ends
Lack of creativity, or an inherent property?
Do we share arteries or copy nearby prophecy?
Either way it bothered me, the eerie monotony
All proven false, as much guidance as astrology
Closed the tattered books, ancient preachers perceived poorly
Which gave me little faith the current ones achieved more things
Plight of Man (Being Left Isn't Right)
So what depraved mind left us on this barren rock?
Whoever it was doesn't really seem to care a lot
I need an answer, someone to appear to me
Clarify my purpose make it all clear to see
What is ignorant bliss? I screeched a militant hiss
With the same wild passion as an intimate kiss
My cries echoed out across the infinite abyss
Eye's hurtin, quite certain no one was listenin to this
Then rain fell, the plain smell filling my nostrils
Poured like heaven's fire hydrant spilling its nozzle
Creeping high above, black cumulonimbus clouds
Torrential downpour dropped from those malicious shrouds
The weather's temper heightening, a lightning flash,
Heard the sky fighting, thunder, a frightening crash
Then nothing, a soundless void, confused where the thunder went
Silent wind whipped wildly, left in wayward wonderment
Thick dark fog rolled in, enveloping the landscape
Whirling around harshly until settling as stagnate
Within the fog a peculiar figure took form
His face was literally the eye of the storm
That image mentally clings; tattered, stark ebony wings
Radiating an aura only dark energy brings
A regal species, born from those meant to be kings
Entity draped in all black, chains and entropy rings
Lips carried the song heresy sings, his gaze reassuring
He was terrifying, but simultaneously alluring
Clawed fingers and razor sharp horns from the forehead
Grew over muscular leathery skin, adding more dread
Blood red lightning and small flames flickered and bounced
Tangible heat dripped from his pores in thicker amounts
He looked at me with a sly grin, tilted his head and spoke
Fire leapt from his tongue and his words were said in smoke
Seven Sins (I'd (W)rather Rule)
Listen, I bring an offer and an opportunity
Join my clan of wickedness and never hear your eulogy
From death I give immunity and all desires humanly
Allow simple people sin and evil, plus grant impunity
Follow me, I know you taste the darkness swallowing
Emotions from your heart, feel yourself hollowing
I see into your soul, each and every lust
Come with me you'll see every enemy is crushed
What they call it is wrath, but is it really a sin?
To have power over all of a million men
Pick me and I'll bestow on you unlimited force
To eliminate any fool or foe with no remorse
The people will call you king, ruler, master of land
Ascend the heights of the world even faster than planned
Sit atop a throne, give orders from your proper home
Command armies of a type unseen since the fall of Rome
As corpses fill meadows, hear the hordes of bellows
For the lord and pharaoh who controls swords and arrows
Guns and tanks, a million soldiers with a hundred ranks
Flood the flanks and take control of a blunted race
Stand above an endless crowd as they bow in praise
More than a taste, fully indulge in a power craze
(Accounting for a Lull)
But perhaps your weak spot is gold and platinum
I can fill accounts until they hold the maximum
Enjoy women and diamonds while livin on islands
Be it pigeons or lions, one or a million of items
Butlers and mansions endless lovers and dances
All colors and fashions, a few comforts that happen
The numbers are ballads, that all point to prestigious
All I need is your name to appoint flowing riches
Capitalist mindset - don't you know greed is good?
Posses the world's vast wealth like an elitist should
I can offer more than any biblical savior
Cause physical labor has a pitiful flavor
Take comfort in a lackadaisical lifestyle,
Endlessly exerting energy or effort is quite vile
I will never ask for actions or accomplishments
Need not even have reactions or responsiveness
If you don't deeply desire to go forth and do
I'm one of the few that will be supporting you
No such thing as lazy, that's crazy, it's just maybe
When the lines between want and need become hazy
Plenty men are made to behave, work from cradle to grave
My forces are able to save from being labeled a slave
(Anything You Can Do, I Can Do Better)
Maybe no matter what you have you still feel empty
Not even the greatest actors can conceal envy
With my powers I can give you a social raise
Perfect your many skills until you receive global praise
If you stumble upon a grand master or veteran
I'll elevate you tenfold above that specimen
Never again uncertain, all men vastly inferior
Unmatched good looks compared to their ghastly exteriors
Never feel inadequate when told to compete
Your domination in all realms will be total, complete
And as the prime example of human excellence
Feel free to gloat over their polluted pestilence
Insects compared to you, dare to wear it on your sleeve
Practically god among men, the foolish, weak, naive
Towering above all the cowering lames below
When you know you're the pinnacle, there's no shame to show
Others are jealous if they think confidence is cocky
Lying to oneself is the artificer's hobby
(Sounds Wild Animals Make)
My best guess is you crave the sultry taste of fresh flesh
Sweet caress, heated breath, bodies meshed, hips and chests pressed
On foreign figures the feeling infests guests
Perhaps, a free pass from perdition with less tests
If they look delicious who's to say you shouldn't indulge
Corporeal denial when you follow an anti-sin cult
You've been lulled into the belief your body lies
And there's shame in evoking passionate godly cries
You naughty guys, unruly temptresses, sly sirens
Expected to hold abstinence - only in wry silence
Stop acting casual, human intercourse is natural
Countless cultures before proved that to be factual
Ancient dread is bred from disease and pregnancy
Now, you won't see a penalty, be free in pleasantry
Cause contraceptives control for drastic error
The current cause for alarm; an odd spastic terror
Switch themes, God's plastic chair on the lawn of luxury
Where nutrition's ambition is a spawn of gluttony
Devour a swan quite hungrily and taste elegance
Go big or go home, feast ferociously on great elephants
Quite literally, internally embrace a lion's heart
Boil baby bats and black widows to find the dark
A kind of spark from electric eel delicious dishes
No caveat for caviar against frail fishes wishes
A pathetic palate paralyzes people's perception
Pulling paradoxical projections of peaceful perfection
There's no regal exceptions, edible equals confection
Man's physical horizon sees no needle-like sections
Whether your lips taste hip, waist, or a creature's corpse
Carnality is the mark of man, only fools teach remorse
(And It Came To Pass)
Don't let anyone control your life or define limits
A complete waste of time joining the divine nitwits
Biblical sin was aimed toward primitive society
Through time, we become more diminutive in piety
For good reason, those past parameters are extinct
Yet preachers still presume reality is text linked
False. We're fated into an era of options
While tradition maintains our scare of the doctrines
Honestly, how many atrocities have been committed
In the name of 'good' religion, but later omitted?
Preparing the charges against their institution;
Oddly, religion advocates evolution
Right and wrong balance upon the whim of the people
Till I can't tell if it's you, me, or Him that is evil
See, morality morphs on a regular basis
So capture autonomy or stick to the stasis,
Be a contented fool, believe in hell so adamant
All the same to me, I'm just playing devil's advocate
Plight of Man (A Second Opinion)
Those icy words cut my soul like a foot injury
Skeptical of the spectacle, smelling of ghoul's tricky
My head amiss, gain endless bliss in full liberty?
Or was the demon's guise a path to fool's misery?
But he caught my attention and as I learned and listened
Something bright fell from the sky, burned and glistened
A pristine being descended, similar to the other
But more refined, a golden color, like an older brother
He bore maturity in an aura of purity
His presence alone bred a sense of more security
The air cleared, warm sunshine, deep breath letting my lungs fill
Tried to speak but his awesome physique kept my tongue still
A man of great scale encased in shining plate mail
Dark strangles beneath the archangel, their traits pale
He towered above the monster who's defiance diminished
Losing power in the scene the fiend silently finished
Flashed a sly grin and a wink, glands dripped dry sin in a blink
Drifted out of sync - just as I was beginning to think
Last taste of malady's face went with the shadowy wraith
Still standing in place; a being whose essence had to be faith

Seven Virtues (Welcome....Coming Soon)
Now listen, don't think that you have our permission
To act in the ways relayed by that dark apparition
Sloth, greed, pride, wrath, gluttony, lust and envy
May make you feel good, but inside you'll be just as empty
My directive; help you find positive perspective
Guide you down the straight and narrow path that's effective
Wouldn't you rather have love, life and laughter
Transcribed in a way you can enjoy writing chapters
Our ancient statement: Make all flagrants vacant
The world knows the benevolence of our gracious agents
Hold your place here, don't join those underhanded vagrants
Instead of wrath, try to understand with patience
Have you ever felt anger over a situation
That made you frustrated enough to want retaliation?
Like your lover claimed busyness, with secretive plans
But later you catch her out, by convenience's chance
What's more, she's embracing an unknown male figure
Wary and upset, you approach with a snail's vigor
Never in your whole life have you felt this sober
Tongue swollen, you lean to her and yell 'it's OVER!'
She tries to explain, crying in pain, "wait! It's complex"
Ready to explode, you mumble, "fine, state the context"
But It's not a date you're stopping - It's a day of shopping
With her cousin, which explains arms and the way they're locking
This short story crafted to show point of view is key
Take a minute to think before you act through and see
The outburst couldn't be justified if you stopped and waited
Keep harsh anger and action in life separated
Deep breath, mentally is the best way to meet stress
Sweet, fresh air always helps to feel the heat less
(Selfless Identity)
Follow me and I'll ensure you're prepared to be
A soul known mainly to be guilty of charity
Follow the principles of utilitarian ethics
Together we can write humanitarian epics
Satisfaction can't manifest in material objects
Best to invest deeply in ethereal prospects
True valor comes from bestowing on the needy
The battered, rather than showing that you're greedy
It matters, hands left empty by coveting hoarders
Those vices keep summoning horrors, struggle and torture
Odds stacked against the weak, barely stumbling forward
So simply share your excess, says our brotherly order
A little a day goes a long way for accomplishments
Eases when fractured to small pieces, common sense
Consonance in life stems from measured gems of effort
Every expert spawns from excerpts of the best works
Do your daily due diligence with new vigilance
And keep tighter schedules than true militants
Don't become a chasm of untapped opportunity
To later learn you've been dunce capped at your eulogy
Once trapped in a mutiny of sloven procrastination
Evolve into a myth of god-send determination
Culmination of creation, perpetual animation
Labors produce legends and eventual admiration
(Discrete Care)
Pride is a passion pursued in wide-eyed interaction
We exist as wholes can't split into splintered fractions
Winter's actions if we leave the needy out in the cold
Persistent assistance is the route of the bold
It takes a cowards soul to avoid benevolence
devoid of temperance we must destroy the pestilence
A kind act daily improves the mind's track greatly
Sweet release of peace though others find that crazy
This divine path may be your route to solace and balance
Harness the status of having conscience as habit
Instead of constantly callous, smile for once
And slowly learn what kindness is like a child or dunce
But know, all people exist in harmonic equality
Yet vanity's veins pump, our chronic pathology
We each harbor our talents in unique realms
Some grown; others born, valueless to critique cells
Speech fails to properly telegraph human capital
Though there's no such thing as a useless animal
Truth infallible, perfect your personal proficiencies
In all areas arrive at versatile efficiency
With observable humility, lets be honest
Pride's pretty persona is such a tempting goddess
But to be empty, thoughtless, petty, heartless
Leads light to leave lavish lives into a heavy darkness
(Zombie Romance)
Anything in excess begs to be the next mess
A moment of coping while hoping for less stress
Cannabis and liqueur break the animus of vigor
Damages the liver, it's analogous to sinner
Warped until the thalamus will quiver; what's the gain?
Every time it cuts the same, your gut's in pain
Busted veins, until you can't even trust your brain
That's just insane - and soon you'll follow suit
You swallow, sipping slowly at its hollow loot
Ending dumb deaf and blind, new age that flesh will find
Approaching death benign, yet, the ugly, messy kind
Downward spiral, dragging relations into your black hole
Where even after quitting you never come back whole
Better to abstain, avoid addicted tremors mixed with pain
Hold the terrible temptation under temperance's chains
Love, the exception, love with infinite capacity
Fortune favors those with intimate audacity
While you may live and lose lovers never is love lost
Though, a lusty life leaves litters of sons cross
Loyalty is paramount, so next time you prepare to mount
Check carefully the creature that you're staring down
Those you hold to heart may suddenly be pulled apart
Where brightness once reigned, lost custody to cold and dark
Invest full affection at every opportunity
Surprise changes soon to be may write lovers their eulogy
Plight Of Man (Question The Answer)
And with those words, he ruffled his white wings and flew away
Still confused, though sure my vocabulary grew today
Now who's to say what's corrupt, just or neutral
Hard to hearken heartily and abruptly trust a scruple
Where I am I sit in a position of power
Ready to voice my choice during this pivotal hour
I've heard both sides of it, now what do I choose
All I am is a man and I've got nothing to lose
It's hard, I don't believe in objective morality
Yet these statements seem to reflect my mortality
Felt like an open stream reflecting off a broken dream
Until an oddly familiar female voice broke the scene
Saw a soft figure outlined, swooned to hear her voice
Its timbre rang from all sides, nowhere was near the noise
Like a dainty doubled echo with a slow, muddled tempo
The perfect mix of sweet and surreal for a troubled fellow
The scene was a blur, exact details hard to pinpoint
Falling ocean tide, exposing seashell shards that sit moist
Serenity, soothing energy, enveloping all
Found myself collapsing pleasantly into her beckoning call
(That's What She Said)
*I don't mean to be nosy but I was walking though*
*There's no one out here but me, who are you talking to?*
I told her I was stuck unraveling life's enigma
She laughed *I can sum it all up like the letter sigma*
Shrouded in elegance, each word she spoke spanned a week
Slowly put her hand to cheek and began to speak
*Origin doesn't matter; regardless we're here to stay
While some work towards higher ends and steer the way
Others only worry if you'll take their beer away
To me, earth appears okay so I will merely say:
Whether we do or don't worship, in wails or wordless
We will never know purpose, yet neither are we worthless
Believe it all or none, frauds, gods, or a fallen son
They're just personal perceptions, to the smallest one
You can walk, crawl or run but when the squall is done
Live is meant for living and overall; it's fun
Do what you feel within, what you believe is right
Or blindly obey commands and forever grieve at night*
(The Awakening)
The images faded leaving an encompassing blackness
Finally something on track, it's a functioning practice
My eyelids are heavy, reality holds constant weight
Where the body complicates, the mind is often great
While we bind with locks and wait, truth breathes within us
Purity commands the reigns while mixed breeds diminish
Mental clarity plays a sentimental melody
Relaxation itself is a fundamental therapy
Broken beliefs birthed a sure cause to find symmetry
Clashing thoughts, sorted as personified imagery
People preach purpose too much, but my mind's at ease
Finding peace in the turmoil they try to teach
Many muffle minds, ideology used to medicate
But my struggle finds I set it straight when I meditate

I read the first two stanzas and they were pretty nice. Good imagery and flow. The rhyme scheme was pretty tight. I'll come back and read more later.

I read the whole post. Very well done, I enjoyed all of them except for the 2nd last paragragh, with the final apparition. It seems out of place, maybe in need of more description. And i think you could've hit harder with the ending paragraph.
I noticed a few slip ups in the rhyme schemes...
1) Mother nature evolved into another STATURE
Darwin disagreed, destiny designed her brother's maker
-STATURE is pronounced with a soft 'a' ... rhymes with 'matter'
-you used it to rhyme with a hard 'a', messes the flow up a bit
2) The numbers are ballads, that all point to PRESTIGIOUS
All I need is your name to appoint flowing RICHES
-seemed very out of place, hurt the flow.
Other than that it seemed fine. Worth the read, lots of intense imagery. The whole demon section was amazing.

Agree with Multis on his first point. Long as fuck read but possibly one of the best I've had since being here. Excellent work.
